3 Minutes to Understand How a High-Quality Air Filter is Made

Air filters are widely used in modern industries, healthcare, households, and other fields. Their main function is to capture particulate pollutants or harmful gases in the air, ensuring that indoor air quality is maintained at the required level, thereby safeguarding production efficiency and the safety of personnel. With so many filters available in the market, how can we know their quality? As a professional filter manufacturer, Amorair is here to advise you.

Selection of Filter Media

The first step in making a high-quality filter is selecting the appropriate filter media. The choice of filter media varies according to the efficiency rating of the air filter. The commonly used filter media include:

>>> Stainless Steel Mesh/Nylon Mesh: These initial efficiency filters act as the first line of defense in the air filtration system, mainly positioned at the air inlet to remove large particles such as dust, skin flakes, and hair. They help protect the lifespan of subsequent filters and prevent them from clogging prematurely.

>>> Polyester Fiber: Also known as non-woven fabric, this media is mainly used in HVAC panel and bag filters. It has advantages such as stable quality, high dust-holding capacity, high humidity resistance, long service life, and cost efficiency.

>>> Synthetic Fiber: Synthetic fiber filter media is primarily made from synthetic materials, offering high filtration efficiency. It has lower resistance, a longer lifespan, and stable performance.

>>> Fiberglass: Made from various sizes of processed glass fibers, fiberglass filters are known for their high temperature resistance, high efficiency, durability, and environmental friendliness. They are widely used in HEPA/ULPA filters.

>>> PTFE: This is an air filter made from PTFE membrane materials. It features high efficiency, low pressure drop, good sealing, high dust-holding capacity, durability, ease of installation, compact structure, and low resistance, effectively capturing particles with an efficiency of up to 99.999995% @ MPPS.

>>> Activated Carbon: The filter is primarily made from activated carbon particles or fibers and is mainly used for adsorption purposes. It can adsorb odors and harmful gases (such as formaldehyde, benzene, and TVOCs) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), but it does not emphasize filtration efficiency. Therefore, if particulate filtration is needed, it should be used in conjunction with other air filters.

Of course, with development in technology, the demand for higher industrial filtration standards is continually increasing, and filter media are being updated. We are actively seeking breakthroughs in the air filtration industry.

Structural Design

For filters, especially HEPA filters, an efficient and rational structure can effectively improve filtration efficiency, extend product lifespan, and reduce energy consumption.

>>> Pleated media: To expand the filter area, filter media are designed to fold. Balancing filter efficiency and energy consumption hinges on this folding design. The height and spacing of the pleats must be uniform; any defects can cause airflow shortcuts, resulting in a "short circuit effect" that severely undermines the overall filtration effectiveness.

>>> Sealing: Sealing is a key factor in evaluating filter quality. If air bypasses the filter media and escapes through gaps in the frame, this will lead to uneven airflow distribution and severe local clogging. Amorair's HEPA filters typically use polyurethane potting glue, and they undergo smoking tests before leaving the factory; unqualified products will not be delivered to customers.

Frame Materials

The frame of an air filter not only provides structural support but also affects ease of installation and airtightness.

>>> Cardboard: Cardboard panel filters are mainly suitable for home use. They are economical and easy to install.

>>> Metal Frame: Common metal frames include galvanized frames, aluminum alloy frames, and stainless steel frames. These materials have high strength and are resistant to deformation, ensuring stability during transport, installation, and wind pressure impacts.

>>> Plastic Frame: ABS plastic frames are often seen in V-bank filters. They have high strength and are not easily deformed. However, creating molds for non-standard sizes will increase costs.

Whether for HVAC or HEPA/ULPA filters, factors like efficiency or price should not be the only criteria for assessment. We should know our real needs and consult professional technicians when purchasing. What best suits oneself is the best choice.
