The Safety Guidience of FFU (Fan Filter Unit)

FFU(Fan Filter Unit), the key air filtration device to maintain the high air quality level for cleanrooms and laboratories. To ensure personnel safety, protect product integrity, extend equipment life, and maintain normal operation, we need to strictly follow the safety instructions for equipment installation and maintenance to eliminate all possible risks as much as possible.

   INSTALLATION & DEBUGGING

The correct installation of the Fan Filter Unit (FFU) is crucial for its normal operation. Throughout the process, installers should check the following aspects:

1. Equipment Inspection: Before unpacking and installation, carefully check the FFU for any damage incurred during transport, such as dents in the casing, damaged filters, or exposed wires. Any damaged equipment must be evaluated by a professional personnel before installation.

2. Power Shutdown:All installation and wiring work must be conducted with the power completely shut off. Confirm that the main power supply to the cleanroom and the FFU power circuit are turned off, and hang a “Do Not Energize” warning sign.

3. Professional Installer: FFU installation should be performed by the professional personnel. Ensure that the power voltage (e.g., 220V AC / 24V DC) matches the rated voltage of the FFU, the connections are secure and reliable, and grounding is properly established to prevent electrical hazards.

4.  Safe Hoisting: FFU are typically installed in the ceiling, so appropriate lifting equipment (such as lifts or scaffolding) are essential.  Installer should wear safety helmets, gloves, and protective eyewear. Standing beneath the FFU is strictly prohibited to prevent injuries from falling objects.

5. Secure Installation: before mounting the FFU onto the ceiling, please make sure that the structure of the ceiling is durable enough. We need to prevent falling due to vibrations or inadequate fastening.

    DAILY OPERATION SAFETY GUIDELINES

For FFU, improper operations will lead to many hidden risks. It is important to have a training on safety awareness for all relevant employees :

Do Not Touch the Device When It Is Working

   - Do not touch the motor while the FFU is running, since the motor can generate high temperatures during operation.

   - Avoid inserting any objects, especially fingers or tools, into the FFU's intake or exhaust grille to prevent serious mechanical injuries from being caught in the fan.

Electrical Safety Awareness

   - Never touch power components with wet hands.

   - Keep the FFU’s power cord and plug (if applicable) dry and clean. If any wires are found to be aging or damaged, immediately stop use and ask for the repair.

Maintain a Clean Work Environment

   - Please make sure that the FFU is always operating under a tidy environment, free from clutter, and well-ventilated.

   MAINTENAMCE

As a critical component in cleanroom operations, the daily maintenance of the FFU effectively ensures equipment performance, reduces safety risks, and guarantees the orderly operation of the entire cleanroom. When it comes to daily maintenance, the following points should be noted:

Preparation Before Maintenance

   - Complete Power Shutdown: Before starting any maintenance tasks, disconnect the power to the FFU and the entire area, and implement a Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedure to prevent accidental energization.

   - Cooling Time: If the equipment has just stopped running, wait for the motor and electronic components to cool down sufficiently to avoid burns.

Air Filter Replacement:

   - Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Maintenance personnel must wear appropriate PPE, including but not limited to safety gloves (cut-resistant), protective eyewear, and masks. Used air filters may release of harmful substances.

   - Careful Handling: When removing and installing air filters, handle them gently to avoid damaging the filter media or seals. Ensure that the new air filter matches the model and specifications of the original, and install it correctly to guarantee a good seal and prevent leaks.

   - Waste Disposal: Discarded air filters should be managed according to hazardous waste or electronic waste regulations and must not be disposed of carelessly.

Fan and Motor Maintenance

   - When cleaning the fan, use a dry, soft cloth, instead of praying liquids or corrosive cleaners directly, as this can lead to electrical shorts or motor damage.

   - Any repairs or replacements must be carried out by professional personnel..

Housing and Pre-Filter Cleaning

   - Clean or replace pre-filters (if applicable) regularly to reduce the load on the HEPA filters and extend their lifespan.

   - Wipe the FFU housing with a soft cloth dampened with a neutral cleaning agent. Ensure that the surface is completely dry before restoring power and operation.

   EMERGENCY HANDLING

Handling Abnormal Situations

If any abnormal conditions happened, such as unusual noise, severe vibrations, smoke, strange odors, or operational interruptions, immediately shutdown the device and disconnect the power. Notify professional maintenance personnel for inspection. DO NOT handle the situation independently.

Cleanroom Maintenance

Since the cleanroom is "OPEN" to the comtaminations when replacing air filters (or do regularly maintenance),we should try to make a workflow plan first to reduce the time as much as possible.

In summary, during the use of FFU, enterprises must strictly adhere to the following points:

   - Ensure that all installation and maintenance tasks are operated by professional personnel.

   - Provide training on safe operations to all relevant employees.

   - Clearly define the departments and personnel responsible for FFU usage, daily inspections, and maintenance, and establish a comprehensive supervision and management system.

FFU are the cornerstone of maintaining the daily operations of cleanrooms( or laboratories). Only by ensuring the normal operation of FFU can we prevent any issues in our production(or experimentation). Paying attention to every detail in daily maintenance can effectively reduce maintenance costs and energy consumption.
